Terms of Service

These terms are the agreement between you and Choose Your AI Future ("we", "us") for using this website. By playing the demo or subscribing, you accept them. Please read them alongside our Privacy Policy. If you have any questions, email support@chooseyouraifuture.xyz.

What the service is

Choose Your AI Future is an interactive fiction app. You type what your character does, and an AI writes the next scene of a story about the future of AI, from utopian to catastrophic.

The free demo

You can play 5 turns of one of our two demo stories for free, without creating an account. Demo turns are text only. After your last free turn, you can subscribe to carry on with the same story.

The subscription

• The subscription costs £4.99 per month, including VAT. It renews automatically every month until you cancel.
• It gives you the full story library and up to 50 new stories in each monthly billing period. Unused stories don't carry over to the next period. Each story also has a reasonable length limit.
• In each story, the first scene you write gets its own AI-generated illustration. Later scenes are text only.
• Payments are handled by Stripe. Stripe acts as the merchant of record for your subscription, which means it takes the payment and handles VAT. Stripe's own terms, shown at checkout, also apply to your payment.
• Creating an account means subscribing. After you pay, your account is linked to the email address you gave at checkout, and we email you a login link.
• You must be 18 or over to subscribe.

Price changes

If we change the price, we'll email you at least 30 days before the new price applies. It will only apply from your next billing period after that, and you can cancel before then if you don't want to continue.

How to cancel

You can cancel at any time:

1. Log in and go to the Subscribe page.
2. Choose Manage existing subscription. This opens Stripe's secure billing portal.
3. Cancel your subscription there.

If you can't get into your account, email support@chooseyouraifuture.xyz and we'll cancel it for you.

What happens after you cancel

• You won't be charged again.
• You keep full access until the end of the billing period you've already paid for.
• After that, you can no longer open the library or start or continue stories. Your stories are kept, and they open again if you subscribe again.
• Apart from the 14-day right described below, we don't give refunds for the unused part of a billing period.
• If you'd like your account and stories deleted, email support@chooseyouraifuture.xyz. See the Privacy Policy for details.

Your 14-day right to cancel

If you're a consumer, UK consumer law gives you the right to cancel within 14 days of first subscribing. To do this, email support@chooseyouraifuture.xyz within that time, and we'll refund your first payment in full through Stripe.

Your legal rights

Nothing in these terms affects your legal rights as a consumer, including under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. We must provide the service with reasonable care and skill. If we don't, contact us and we'll try to put it right. If we can't, you may be entitled to some or all of your money back. Citizens Advice can tell you more about your rights.

Stories are written by AI

Every story and illustration is generated by artificial intelligence as it happens. Stories are fiction, and they may be inaccurate, inconsistent, unexpected or occasionally unsuitable. Some stories deal with dark themes, such as disaster and danger. Nothing in a story is fact or advice, so don't rely on it for decisions about health, money, law, safety or anything else in real life.

What you type

• Don't enter sensitive personal information about yourself or anyone else, such as health details, financial or account details, passwords, addresses, or anything that identifies a real person. What you type is saved and sent to our AI provider.
• Don't type anything illegal, hateful, harassing, or that infringes someone else's rights.
• You keep any rights you have in what you type. You let us store it and send it to our AI provider so we can generate your story.

Using the stories and illustrations

The service is for personal, non-commercial use. You're welcome to keep, read and share the stories and illustrations you create for personal purposes. The website itself, including our story premises, opening scenes, opening illustrations and design, belongs to us.

Fair use

Please don't:

• try to get around the demo or subscription limits, for example by creating many demo accounts;
• use bots, scripts or scraping tools on the service;
• interfere with the service, or try to access accounts or data that aren't yours;
• resell or share access to your account.

If you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, we may suspend or close your account. If we close your account when you haven't done anything wrong, we'll refund the unused part of your current billing period.

Changes to the service

We may update the service, for example by adding or changing stories, or fixing problems. We'll try to keep it running smoothly, but we can't promise it will always be available or free of errors. If we make a change that significantly reduces what your subscription includes, we'll tell you first, and you can cancel.

Our responsibility to you

If we break these terms, we're responsible for loss or damage you suffer that was a foreseeable result. We aren't responsible for loss that wasn't foreseeable, or for business losses, because the service is for personal use. We don't exclude or limit our liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for breaching your legal rights as a consumer.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms, and we'll change the date at the top when we do. If a change affects your subscription, we'll email you before it takes effect. If you don't agree, you can cancel.

Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. You can bring legal proceedings in the courts of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland, you can also bring proceedings in the Scottish courts, and if you live in Northern Ireland, in the Northern Irish courts. If you have a problem, please email support@chooseyouraifuture.xyz first and we'll do our best to sort it out.
